Beethoven’s only opera, the dramatic masterpiece "Fidelio", brings to life a timeless tale of love and political courage.The opera centres on the love and heroism of Leonore, who disguises herself as Fidelio in order to free her husband, Florestan, who has been imprisoned for political reasons. Ultimately, justice and love prevail. The opera compels with unforgettable lyrical pieces like “The Prisoners’ Chorus”, Leonore’s “Abscheulicher” aria and Florestan’s aria.
„Fidelio“ premiered in Vienna in 1814.
